Fascinated by the phenomena of writing and languages, I studied Egyptology, Ethnology and History of Medicine at Munich (M.A., i.e. Magister Artium). It was here that I became accustomed to the methods of transcription (from Hieratic, the handwriting of the Hieroglyphs as well as medieval medical texts), translation and text analysis as a research toolkit. As foreign scripts I’ve learned Arabic, Greek, Coptic, Hieroglyphs and Hieratic. Altogether I’ve studied eleven languages and practised them in numerous stays abroad and during internships.

At the University of Bamberg I completed my Master of Arts in Heritage Conservation, my special fields of interest being research on old houses and the basic historical sciences.

I collect and have read old German handwriting and printed matter since my childhood, being firmly convinced of their value as repositories of memories and historic incidents. I consider the written word to be central to culture and something which should be accessible to everybody for it opens the doors to the past.

After employment at museums and in the field of PI, my pleasure in working with old documents has now brought me to deal professionally with these tantalising voices from the past. I have gathered experience with transcriptions in many different types of text: documents, letters, files, recipes, children’s books, court records, official reports etc. dating from 1426 up to texts written nowadays by a few elderly people, who still use »Sütterlin« (German handwriting).
