I »decipher« and transcribe texts written in old German (hand)writings in contemporary script for you:

documents, contracts, legal files, records, calculation and tax books, land registers, church records (documenting baptisms, weddings and cases of death), inventories, annual reports, documents of firms, construction maps, maps in general, notes on photographs, children’s books, postcards, diaries, old letters of the family, recipes, and so on.

Texts may be as old as 600 years depending on the level of difficulty (dialects, regional characteristics, technical terms and the time context) as well as texts written in »Sütterlin« of the last century.

I actually go to archives for you in Germany, do research, take notes, transcribe and write a summary.

I translate old German documents into English, if, for example the descendants have adopted English as their mother tongue in the meantime.

• I’ll willingly add word explanations to the transcription to explain outdated words if necessary. As far as possible, the source can be explained by its meaning and in the historical context.
• I’ll also gladly help you out by transcribing older books in »Frakturschrift« (i.e. variations of printed lettering, in use from 16th to the first half of the 20th century). In general they are more readable and by thus saving transcription time, you will also reduce costs.
